Travel bucket list

With all the opportunity that comes with living in a new country, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere where the United States, Canada and Europe are often one flight away, I’ve been thinking about the myriad of destinations I can’t wait to visit while I’m living in Canada. I have a huge list spanning across Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. I’ve narrowed down my top ten destinations below. Let me know what other destinations you recommend in the comments below.

1.     Montauk, USA

I’ve wanted to visit Long Island for many years and Montauk looks like the perfect place for a beachside weekend getaway. I’ll fly to New York then likely take the Hamptons Jitney or Long Island Rail Road to travel to Montauk.

2.     Reykjavik, Iceland

I couldn't be happier with the growing competition between airlines for transatlantic flights. Airlines such as WOW Air, a low-cost Icelandic carrier are making a quick stopover in Reykjavik, before continuing to other European destinations, incredibly affordable and tempting! I’m keen to see the Blue Lagoon and wander around the town centre.

3.     Montreal, Canada

Not far from Toronto, Montreal will be the perfect place for a quick 3 to 4 day trip. I’m excited to walk through old Montreal on Saint-Paul Street and visit some of the local markets.

4.     New York City, USA

New York City.

One of the main things that attracted Rich and me to moving to Toronto is its proximity to New York. I visited once a few years ago and can’t wait to make many more trips to New York City. With my first trip focused on seeing as much as possible in the week I was there, when I go back I’d like to take things at a slower pace and leave time free to get lost in all the interesting neighbourhoods around lower Manhattan.

5.     Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

When I’m ready to thaw out from the cold in Canada, I’m keen to see Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for a relaxing beachside getaway.

6.     Aspen, USA

After we've brushed up on our skiing skills in Canada, I’d like to take a trip to Aspen, Colorado for some snow activities and a look at all the character buildings in the region.

7.     Positano, Italy

Positano looks like another relaxing place to soak up Italian culture in an oceanside atmosphere. We originally had Positano in our itinerary for our travels on the way to Canada but ended up visiting some other places instead.

8.     San Juan Del Ser, Nicaragua

Home to a number of coworking spaces catering to the increasing number of digital nomads around the world, San Juan Del Ser in Nicaragua looks like the perfect place for beach side work and an opportunity to meet other like-minded people.

9.     Austin, Texas

There are so many parts of Texas I’d love to see but Austin is number one on my Texas list right now. I’m hoping to line up a trip to Austin to attend SXSW and get inspired by all the creativity that will be in one place!

10.  Whitehorse, Yukon

Whitehorse in Yukon, Canada boasts some incredible Northern Lights viewing experiences. I’d like to visit Whitehorse to see the Northern Lights and explore the scenery and wildlife in the region.

As I continue exploring my new home in Canada and ticking off the destinations on this list, I’ll keep you updated with our trips to help you plan your own adventures.
